Car Accident
Check for injuries
The first thing to do is to make sure that you and anyone else involved in the accident are not seriously injured. If anyone is injured, call for medical assistance immediately.
Move to a safe location
If you are able to move your vehicle and it is safe to do so, move it to the side of the road or to a safe location off the road. Turn on your hazard lights to warn other drivers.
Call the police
Even if the accident seems minor, it's important to call the police and report the accident. The police will create an accident report, which will be useful for insurance purposes.
Exchange information
Exchange contact and insurance information with the other driver(s) involved in the accident. Get their name, address, phone number, driver's license number, and insurance information.
Take photos
Take pictures of the damage to both vehicles, as well as any other property damage or injuries. These photos will be useful when filing an insurance claim.
Gather witness information
If there were any witnesses to the accident, get their contact information as well. They may be able to provide valuable information to the insurance companies.
Notify your insurance company
Call your insurance company and report the accident as soon as possible. Provide them with all the information you gathered at the scene.
Contact a personal injury lawyer
If you or anyone involved in the accident has been injured, it may be a good idea to contact a personal injury lawyer. They can advise you on your legal rights and help you navigate the insurance claims process.
See a doctor
It's important to see a doctor as soon as possible. Even if you feel fine, some injuries may not be immediately apparent. Seeing a doctor will ensure that you receive the necessary medical treatment and that your injuries are properly documented.
